Landlords Gain Access to Tenant Credit Scores

UAE landlords can now access prospective tenants' credit scores through a new digital screening service launched by Etihad Credit Bureau in partnership with UAE PASS. This service allows landlords to request a tenant's credit score, but the information is only released with the tenant's explicit consent via the UAE PASS platform, the country's national digital identity system. The "Tenant Screening" solution is available through the Etihad Credit Bureau mobile app.
This initiative aims to enhance transparency and trust within the rental market while empowering residents with greater control over their financial data. The service was developed through collaboration between government and private sector entities to provide user-friendly digital solutions. The platform utilizes a consent-based process, ensuring that tenants have the final say in sharing their credit information.
In addition to the Tenant Screening service, Etihad Credit Bureau has also upgraded its Cheque Clearance Indicator feature. This upgrade now incorporates artificial intelligence to assess the likelihood of a cheque clearing based on the issuer's credit history. These combined services are designed to mitigate financial risks associated with rental disputes, bounced cheques, and payment delays within the real estate sector.
The introduction of these services supports the UAE's broader efforts to create an interconnected digital ecosystem, offering secure and efficient services across various sectors. Residents can access their credit scores, reports, the Tenant Screening service, and the Cheque Clearance Indicator through the Etihad Credit Bureau app and website.
