Heirs to Diana's Family Estate

Princes William and Harry will not inherit Althorp Estate, their mother Princess Diana's childhood home and final resting place. The historic estate, spanning over 13,000 acres in Northamptonshire, has been in the Spencer family since 1508. Following Diana's death in 1997, she was buried on a small island within the estate. However, due to the tradition of male primogeniture, Althorp will pass to Diana's nephew, Louis Spencer, the current Earl Spencer's only son, bypassing William and Harry.

Currently managed by Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, Althorp's inheritance follows a long-standing family tradition. This tradition dictates that the estate is passed down to the eldest male heir. While this means Louis Spencer, who is pursuing a career in acting, will inherit the estate, it excludes Diana's daughters, Lady Kitty, Lady Eliza, and Lady Amelia, as well as her sons, Princes William and Harry.

Despite not inheriting the property, William and Harry maintain a deep connection to Althorp. Diana's grave, located on a secluded island, remains a private space for them to visit. The public can pay tribute through a memorial and a Princess Diana exhibition open during the summer months. When Diana died in 1997, her sons inherited an estimated £21 million, including personal jewelry, family heirlooms, and financial investments.
