Simplifying Attestation of Overdue Lease Contracts

Sharjah Municipality is offering new facilities and flexible options for residents to settle overdue lease contracts. This initiative follows a Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) resolution addressing unattested leases that expired before the implementation of Law No. 5 of 2024 on real estate leasing. Residents can now attest their expired leases and benefit from significant incentives.

To facilitate the process, the Municipality has readied 12 service centers across Sharjah for lease contract attestation. Alternatively, residents can utilize the Aqari platform, accessible through the Sharjah Digital app and website, for digital attestation. A key highlight is the 50% discount on attestation fees for tenants and landlords who attest their contracts according to the law in effect at the time of signing. This discount applies to leases that expired before September 19, 2024.

This initiative, which began on November 1st and runs until December 31st, also exempts users from penalties for non-attestation. The Municipality aims to simplify procedures, promote compliance, and safeguard the rights of both landlords and tenants. Certified lease agreements are recognized official documents that regulate landlord-tenant relationships.

The Municipality encourages residents to take advantage of these options to regularize expired leases and secure the rights of all parties involved. Awareness campaigns are also underway to emphasize the importance of contract certification and urge residents to update their agreements promptly.
