Dubai Aims to Increase Tourism

Dubai, once a small desert city, has transformed into a global hub of tourism and commerce. The city is currently undergoing a massive $35 billion renovation of the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is expected to become the largest and most expensive airport in the world within the next 10 years. This futuristic terminal, designed by Leslie Jones Architecture, will replace the already bustling Dubai International Airport (DXB), which is the world's second-busiest international hub.

Alongside the airport expansion, Dubai is also witnessing a surge in hotel development, particularly in the luxury segment. By 2025, the city will welcome new properties from renowned brands such as Delano, Jumeirah, Six Senses, and Gran Melia, among others. Additionally, the city is attracting investment in entertainment and leisure, with MGM Resorts building a "Dubai Sphere" as part of a $2 billion complex.

Despite its reputation for opulence, Dubai's CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Issam Kazim, insists that the city has much more to offer than just luxury. He emphasizes the city's efforts to attract a diverse range of travelers, including those seeking more affordable options, as well as its focus on promoting cultural and heritage experiences. Dubai has also made it easier for businesses to set up operations in the city, with changes in foreign ownership laws and a focus on becoming a hub for global headquarters.
