Super-tall Tower Reaches Milestone: Will It Surpass Current Tallest?

Jeddah Tower, a 1-km-tall skyscraper on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, is rapidly progressing towards completion, aiming to become the world's tallest building by 2028. Construction restarted in January 2025 after a pause, with crews adding a floor every three to four days. As of late 2025, the tower has surpassed 69 floors, utilizing high-pressure pumps and advanced construction techniques. The project is a key part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 plan, with the Kingdom Holding Co. leading the ambitious project.

The foundation of Jeddah Tower is a massive hybrid system, featuring a 5-meter-thick concrete pad anchored by 270 deep piles. This robust foundation is crucial for supporting the immense weight of the supertall structure. The tower will include retail spaces, dining options, and event venues in its five-level base.

Alongside Jeddah Tower, Saudi Arabia is also planning the Rise Tower in Riyadh, a proposed 2-kilometer-tall skyscraper. Currently in the design phase, the Rise Tower aims to be the world's first 2km-tall building. Contractor bidding is underway after design finalization in 2023-2024. This project, backed by Saudi's Public Investment Fund, underscores the nation's commitment to futuristic and ambitious architectural endeavors.
